Tanbark Beginnings

Tanbark was born at an intersection, both literally and figuratively, when Melissa LaCasse heard a thought-provoking question on a podcast: "What kind of ancestor do you want to be?" Inspired, Melissa decided to turn her climate grief into action and make a difference. With her husband Christopher's expertise in molded fiber packaging machines, Melissa saw an opportunity to create change.

Thus, Tanbark was born.

Melissa secured $3.2 million in pre-seed funding and utilized her skills in distribution, business development, and strategic planning to position Tanbark for success. Meanwhile, Christopher worked tirelessly on designing and building the necessary equipment and preparing the space. Their passion for their work was evident when they received sample product packaging and marveled at its simplicity.

Tanbark aims to be a place where imagination and play thrive. By innovating the pulp and paper heritage industry in Maine, Tanbark aims to solve the modern problem of plastic waste. Melissa and Christopher are committed to shared prosperity, thriving industry, stronger communities in Maine, and a healthier world for their children.
